Volunteer to pick up litter around your community during the PRIDE Spring Cleanup. Cleanup events already scheduled in your area are listed below. To volunteer, call Johnson County PRIDE Coordinator Lillian Wheeler at 606.789.2550. You also can call her if you want to clean an area that is not on this list.

  • 3/27/08 thru 3/28/08 — 8 am - 4 pm — Roadside Cleanup at SR 40 East — Organization: Johnson County Fiscal Court
  • 4/1/2008 — 8 am - 2:30 pm — Roadside Cleanup at Whitehouse, Hammond Chestnut — Organization: Whitehouse Homemakers
  • 4/5/2008 — 8 am - 3:30 pm — Roadside Cleanup at Paintsville Lake — Organization: Kiwanis Club of Paintsville
  • 4/12/2008 — 8:30 am - 2:30 pm — Community and Roadside Cleanup in Van Lear, SR 1107 and 302 — Organization: Community Volunteers

School Cleanup Activities
PRIDE encourages schools to organize cleanup events for their students. Due to spring break or testing schedules, these events may be held outside the Spring Cleanup period. These events are not open to the public, but they are listed here to recognize the schools' PRIDE.

Contact your Solid Waste Coordinator to request a list of licensed garbage haulers in your county or to report illegal dumping.

Local Watershed Watch Programs

PRIDE Environmental Education Grant Recipients in the County (2007 Grant Cycle)
Grant recipients might need help with their environmental education projects from community members. Contact the grant recipient to inquire about volunteer opportunities.
  • Paintsville Elementary School: $3,195 to enhance greenhouse
  • Porter Elementary School: $5,000 to construct outdoor classroom
  • Paintsville Middle School: $5,000 to construct greenhouse
