Grant Information
Grant are worth up to $5,000. There is no minimum grant request.
Grants are awarded once annually. The grant period is approximately one year.
This is a reimbursement program. The grant recipient must spend the money first, submit the required paperwork, and then be reimbursed by PRIDE via an Automated Clearing House transfer to the recipient’s bank. Invoices may be submitted periodically.
PRIDE requires that grant recipients fund or show in-kind services of at least 25% of the grant funds requested. Business and community involvement is encouraged.
Eligible Applicants
Teachers from private and public school systems in the 38 counties served by Eastern Kentucky PRIDE
Educational institutions applying as a school or non-formal educators
Nonprofit organizations that have 501(c) 3 certification from the Internal Revenue Service (a copy of the certification should be included with the application)
Ineligible Applicants
PRIDE cannot grant funds to federal agencies nor nonprofit groups that do not have certification or nonprofit status (501 (c) 3) from the Internal Revenue Service.
Eligible Grant Activities
Cross-curricular environmental education programs
Programs that focus on water quality, reduction of solid waste or environmentally oriented teacher training
Educational materials that will aid in teaching, promoting or providing hands-on learning experiences that build environmental awareness
Programs that will result in lesson plans, materials and projects that are tied to local and regional environmental issues
Examples include, but are not limited to: outdoor classroom shelters, greenhouses, wetlands, environmental education tools and equipment, environmental books, videos and computer software
Grant Expenditure Guidelines for the Current Grant Cycle (2007) Below is a current list of approved expenditures. The amounts are revised each grant cycle as the review committee sees fit.
*Books: For general classroom use the limit is $500. An exception is provided for books purchased for workshops.
**Office supplies include postage, paper, paint, makers, etc.
***Multi-media materials include educational CDs, DVDs, videos, computer software and tapes
Ineligible Grant Activities and Expenditures
Beautification projects
Food and beverages
General audio and visual equipment such as digital cameras, TVs, VCRs, DVD players or video equipment
Administrative fees, wages or travel expenses
Plastic landscape ponds and pumps
Gazebos
Non-native plants
Teacher or substitute teacher salaries
Bus transportation costs
