Free Electronics Recycling Days in Liberty, Mt. Vernon, Somerset
Is there an old VCR or stereo collecting dust in your house? What about a vintage Atari sitting in the basement? At your office, is there a closet filled with old computer parts?

At select locations in October, you finally can get rid of those old electronics at no cost to you and in a way that is friendly to our environment. Electronics contain many materials — such as steel, glass, plastic and precious metals — that can be re-used or recycled instead of going to waste in landfills. Recycling electronics also ensures proper disposal of any hazardous components, such as lead, mercury and hexavalent chromium.

During the following Free Electronics Recycling Days, old electronics can be dropped off — at no cost — at these locations:
  • Saturday, Oct. 7, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the Rockcastle County Road Department Garage on U.S. 25 South in Mt. Vernong.
  • Until Tuesday, Oct. 10 at the Casey County Recycling Center on West 70 in Liberty.
  • Saturday, Oct. 14, 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., at the Waste Management Transfer Station on the 914 Bypass in Somerset.
Richmond-based Kentucky Recycling will dispose of the electronics collected during the events. The company will erase all hard drives and then refurbish reusable items and recycle the rest.

What to Bring
Electronics that will be accepted for recycling are:
  • Computers (hard drives will be erased as part of the recycling service).
  • Monitors.
  • Computer accessories (mouse, keyboard, speakers, etc.).
  • Printers.
  • Scanners.
  • Computer game electronic devices.
  • Fax machines.
  • Phones and cell phones.
  • Radios and other audio equipment.
  • VCRs.
Televisions and household trash will not be accepted and should not be brought to the events.

Any quantity of approved electronics can be dropped off during the free events. However, if you plan to bring more than a pickup-truck load, please call one of the contacts listed below.

Sponsors and Volunteers
Free Electronics Recycling Day is sponsored by the Casey, Pulaski and Rockcastle County Fiscal Courts, Eastern Kentucky PRIDE, Kentucky Recycling, and Waste Management.

Volunteers assisting with the event will be Rogers Scholars Ambassadors, who were selected by their fellow graduates of the Rogers Scholars program to represent this youth leadership camp of the Center for Rural Development.

SouthEast Telephone donated water for the volunteers.
