The fourth annual Corbin Bypass Cleanup was a great kick-off for Roadside PRIDE Month. On Saturday, Oct. 4, 250 volunteers picked up 310 bags of trash and six tires along the bypass in just three hours.
After the cleanup, SouthEast Telephone provided free hot dogs for all volunteers. Then, link=http://www.tricountycineplex.com/]Tri-County Cineplex[/link] treated all volunteers to a free movie party, which included a ticket to the movie of their choice, a drink and popcorn. One lucky volunteer won a one-year free movie pass to Tri-County Cineplex. Volunteers received free T-shirts.
“This is a great event for scouts, school groups, and other youth groups,” said Greg Razmus, owner of Tri-County Cineplex, the primary sponsor of the Corbin Bypass Cleanup. “We design the cleanup with kids in mind because they have the power to break the cycle of litter in the future. It’s our pleasure to reward their volunteerism by treating them to a free movie, popcorn and drink after the cleanup.”
“We are thrilled that this event has become an annual tradition in Corbin and will kick off Roadside PRIDE this year,” added Greg’s wife, Suzie. “The cleanup is important. Litter makes a bad impression on visitors, but it also pulls down the community pride of the people who live here.”
Roadside PRIDE is a month-long campaign to clean the roads of southern and eastern Kentucky just in time to enjoy scenic drives through fall foliage. Throughout October, local governments will recruit volunteers to pick up litter, and PRIDE will pay the disposal costs. Cities and counties will win trophies for recruiting the most volunteers and collecting the most litter.
