For the second year in a row, Outdoor Venture Corporation (OVC) is a Silver-Level Sponsor of the PRIDE Spring Cleanup. The company, head- quartered in Stearns, donated $5,000 to support Southern and Eastern Kentucky’s 2009 cleanup campaign.
OVC now has donated $45,000 in nine years to PRIDE, which is a nonprofit organization that promotes environmental cleanup and education efforts in the region. The company’s employees frequently donate their time to clean the roads near the three OVC plants and participate in the local community’s PRIDE cleanup activities.
“I want to thank J.C. Egnew and his employees for their dedication to community service,” said Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5), who founded PRIDE. “The employees’ volunteerism is invaluable to McCreary County. The company’s Spring Cleanup sponsorship will make sure thousands of Spring Cleanup volunteers across the region have the supplies they need and recognition they deserve. If every company followed the OVC model, our region would surely realize its potential.”
“It’s an investment that pays dividends every day into the quality of life,” said J.C. Egnew, OVC Chairman and President. “First impressions are lasting impressions especially for visitors. We are blessed with an abundance of natural beauty in our area. A clean environment in a community sends a strong message everyday that people care deeply about themselves, their property and their fellow citizens.”
“In the words of my grandmother ‘Many Hands Make Light Work!’” added Diana Bybee, OVC Human Resources Manager. “When everyone chips in together the difference we make is huge. It is important that our children see us and participates with us taking pride in our county which will translate into a pride and love for our state and country.”
Outdoor Venture, along with its subsidiaries, has manufactured and supplied a wide range of products, including commercial (family and recreational) and military tents, sleeping bags, and hunting products since 1972. The company also was one of the first suppliers of automotive air bags in the United States. The company does the majority of its manufacturing, warehousing, and shipping from its three McCreary County facilities, two located in Stearns and one in Pine Knot.
PRIDE Spring Cleanup Month takes place in 38 counties of southern and eastern Kentucky. In April, volunteers will pick up roadside litter and beautify welcome areas across the region. Local governments and organizations are recruiting the volunteers. PRIDE will provide volunteer T-shirts and cleanup supplies, as well as help with trash disposal and beautification costs.
Wal-Mart is the exclusive Gold-Level Sponsor of the 2009 PRIDE Spring Cleanup. OVC and SouthEast Telephone are Silver-Level Sponsors.
April is also Redbud Month, and communities that participate in the Spring Cleanup can receive free redbud trees and seedlings. Redbud Month is sponsored by TOUR Southern and Eastern Kentucky, which is the region’s tourism development organization.
